“Five years ago, I spearheaded the creation of the Empire State Apprenticeship Tax Credit (ESATC) Program to connect employers in need of skilled workers with those looking for training to help land a good-paying job. The last several years have demonstrated how the program is a win-win for businesses and workers. The Assembly budget proposal continues funding this vital program for another five years, helping create a brighter future for young adults across the state.

“Getting a paycheck while learning on the job can be a life-changing experience for disadvantaged youths, which is why I had pushed to create this apprenticeship program. From helping combat poverty to bolstering our skilled workforce, we’ve seen how this initiative helps apprentices get hired in their desired field and meet the needs of businesses. The Assembly’s plan renews the annual $10 million investment into the ESATC program, helping employers offset training costs.

“The program provides businesses with a tax credit to take on those aged 16 to 24 as apprentices. Higher credits are awarded for training disadvantaged youth to help more people achieve economic security.^[1] I’ll keep fighting to ensure this vital funding is in the final state budget, allowing even more young people to take advantage of this critical program.”
