Assemblymember Bronson Joins Effort to Reorganize State Government, Save Monroe County Taxpayers Money
Assemblymember Harry B. Bronson (D-Rochester/Chili/Riga/Rush/Wheatland) announced the unveiling of an Assembly budget proposal to reduce waste, improve the delivery of services and ultimately save taxpayer dollars through the consolidation of state government departments and agencies (A.4013-A).
“Far too many state agencies and commissions have gotten away from their intended purpose or duplicate jobs done elsewhere,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “It’s unfair to put an undue burden on Monroe County taxpayers that stems from unnecessary waste and spending – all because government is unorganized and too big. We need to take a close look at these agencies and get rid of those that aren’t performing as they should.”
The legislation enhances the process for reviewing, assessing and changing state government operations. With the underlying goal of saving taxpayer dollars and improving government services, the Legislature will review a reorganization plan that details the advantages of streamlining government.
“This legislation is a first step in creating the responsible state government the people of Monroe County deserve,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “Just like all New York families, we must spend each dollar wisely and make better use of state agencies.”
The reorganization plan will be subject to a vote, without amendment, by each house of the Legislature within 30 days of receipt. The governor may submit his plan once a year, and is permitted to amend that plan once within the 30-day period.
“Reorganizing state government will help rid wasteful spending – using taxpayer money more responsibly – and help make New York more efficient for the people,” Assemblymember Bronson said.
