A number of municipalities in Monroe County will receive a boost in funding for crime prevention programs over the next year. Assemblymember Harry B. Bronson (D-Rochester/Chili/Riga/Rush/Wheatland) announced that $80,000 he helped secure will be used to upgrade facilities in several towns.

“This funding will greatly increase law enforcement’s abilities to both prevent criminal activity and catch perpetrators when they break the law,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “Keeping our citizens safe is a top priority of mine – that includes making sure law enforcement has all the equipment they need. This funding will help keep our facilities up to date, allowing law enforcement to more easily do their jobs.”

The towns of Riga, Rush and Wheatland will all receive funds for new computers and training for court personnel, in addition to other equipment. Riga will receive $5,000 and Rush and Wheatland will receive $4,000 each. The village of Churchville will receive $10,000 to install fiber optic security cameras on public property. As part of the countywide public safety program, the cameras will survey for criminal activity and trespassers, Assemblymember Bronson said.

The largest grant of $57,000 goes to the town of Chili to update the Incidence Control Center with new telecommunications equipment and fiber optic cameras. As part of the county public safety program, all urgent situations, including weather and medical emergencies in addition to criminal activity, are handled through the Incidence Control Center.

“The grant for the Chili Incidence Control Center will greatly improve its capacity to respond in any emergency situation,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “I worked hard to secure this funding knowing the importance this type of facility plays – not just during day-to-day crime prevention, but also during natural disasters, like the ones we experienced in New York over the past year.”
