Assemblymember Harry B. Bronson (D-Rochester/Chili/Riga/Rush/Wheatland) announced the Assembly passed a bill he sponsored that would continue a veteran’s tax exemption on their primary home if they move within the same county (A.5518-B).

“We must continue to thank and reward our veterans with a tax break for the personal sacrifices they have made for us,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “The expansion of this tax exemption is one small thing we can do for these brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for us.”

Currently, veterans are given a property tax exemption on their primary home as compensation for serving in the military. However, under the current law, veterans can only keep this exemption when they move if their new home is within the same city, town or village.

Assemblymember Bronson’s legislation would expand the law to make sure veterans keep this exemption as long as their new home is in the same county.

“Like most of us, veterans rarely live in the same house for their entire lives. By expanding this law, we give them a better chance of holding on to the exemption they deserve,” Assemblymember Bronson said. “By changing this law, we show our gratitude to veterans for all they have done for us.”
