Today’s vote showed the true face of the Congressional leadership. Instead of taking time to develop a sound alternative to the Affordable Care Act that increases access to healthcare, while maintaining quality, the House Majority demonstrated that they would rather give giant tax cuts to the rich and powerful and leave hardworking American families to fend for themselves. In the guise of providing relief to rising healthcare costs, Trumpcare guts health benefits for Americans with preexisting medical conditions, senior citizens, and women. Today’s vote was not a vote to increase access to healthcare, it was a vote to take it away. Hopefully, this legislation will be stopped by the Senate and will never become law. Here in New York, we must do better. In the Assembly, I’ll never stop fighting for the quality, affordable health coverage our residents deserve.
