On World Down Syndrome Day, Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I-Castleton) celebrated the many contributions of those with Down syndrome in the workforce and in communities throughout New York. A resolution was passed in the Assembly marking this occasion and honoring John Cronin, an entrepreneur and creator of John’s Crazy Socks. He has Down syndrome but noted at the press conference that it has never held him back; it is only one aspect of who he is. Also at the press conference was Kayla McKeon, manager of Grassroots Advocacy.
“I am so pleased to see John Cronin and Kayla McKeon leading by example and advocating for those with Down syndrome. They are both remarkable and inspiring New Yorkers,” said Ashby.
Cronin’s business has contributed more than $500,000 to the Special Olympics and other various causes. He himself was a Special Olympian. His sock business has gained quite a following, with even late President George H.W. Bush having been a fan.
