Gallahan Joins Minority Colleagues In Calling For Passage Of Anti-Crime Measures
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) joined his Minority colleagues from the Senate and Assembly today in a press conference calling for the passage of numerous anti-crime measures in response to an increase in violent crime in New York state throughout the last several years. The state’s murder rate rose 46.7% between 2019 and 2020, and according to the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, New York has the highest demand for domestic violence services in the country.
“Continuing to lead our nation in all of the wrong categories, New York is becoming an increasingly unsafe place to raise a family. That’s a real problem for our state’s future,” said Gallahan. “Now more than ever, we need to stand firmly in support of our law enforcement professionals and against criminal elements in our communities. That starts with the repealing of bail reform, a policy that’s created a revolving door for offenders that emboldens them to do as they please with little fear of losing their freedom. For the protection of the public and the safety of the brave men and women in uniform who protect us, it cannot be allowed to stand.”
