Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) rallied with highway superintendents and workers, advocates and fellow lawmakers today as they called for an increase in funding to the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS), Pave-NY, and the Extreme Winter Recovery Program. At the event, they emphasized the point that increased funds to these programs are necessary to ensure New York’s roads can facilitate personal, commercial and emergency travel in a safe and efficient manner in the decades to come.

“In a very literal sense, our economic growth is carried by our local roads and highways, and if they’re left to crumble, our state’s economy will follow suit,” said Gallahan. “With that said, even more concerning is the danger dilapidated roads pose to emergency vehicles, as even the slightest mishap on the road can jeopardize their ability to save lives when seconds matter. Our roads are something we all rely on, so it’s critical we work proactively to ensure they’re maintained before their degradation causes any personal or economic pain to New Yorkers.”
