Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan Bill Honoring Fallen Airman TSGT Kory Wade Signed into Law
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) announced that his legislation (A.6584B) dedicating a portion of State Route 21 in the Town of Manchester in honor of Air Force Technical Sergeant (TSgt) Kory Wade has been signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The measure designates the stretch of Route 21, from its intersection with State Route 96 to Latting Road/Standpipe Road, passing directly in front of the Wade family home, as the “Highway Dedicated to TSgt Kory Wade.”
TSgt Kory Wade, a proud native of Manchester and 2008 Red Jacket High School graduate, felt a deep call to serve his country and immediately enlisted in the Air Force after graduation. He served honorably as a medical logistics airman with the 48th Rescue Squadron. On June 17, 2023, TSgt Wade tragically lost his life during a training exercise while serving his country with distinction.
“TSgt Kory Wade was a true American patriot. A decorated airman, his service is truly inspirational. This dedication will ensure his service and sacrifice for our nation will never be forgotten. I am honored to play a part in remembering his heroic life through this legislation,” said Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan.
TSgt Wade’s exemplary service earned him numerous awards and decorations, including the Air and Space Commendation Medal, Air and Space Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the U.S. Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon.
Beyond his military service, Kory was known for his love of the outdoors, boating, riding motorcycles, skiing and enjoying time with family and friends. He shared a close bond with his beloved dog, Kaiser, and was admired for his humility, compassion and devotion to children and animals.
Following his passing, Gov. Hochul directed flags to be flown at half-staff on July 5 and 6, 2023, in his honor. This legislation now serves as a permanent tribute to TSgt Wade’s life, service and sacrifice, ensuring his legacy will live on in the community he called home.
The New York State Department of Transportation will install and maintain appropriate signage along the dedicated portion of the highway. A formal dedication ceremony will be announced in partnership with the Wade family and local officials.
