Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) is rallying alongside fellow Minority members in the Assembly to pass a bill (A.7107) that would prohibit statewide elected officials from profiting on published works while serving in their position. The effort comes after news broke that Gov. Cuomo would be earning over $5 million for publishing his memoir about his experiences serving as governor during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period in which he also allegedly worked with his administration to hide the fact that over 15,000 people died in nursing homes under the watch of his own Department of Health.

“Public service and personal gain are concepts that should be mutually exclusive. To think that the governor and his staff were spending time on this book as we were losing thousands of our loved ones in nursing homes throughout last year is despicable,” said Gallahan. “Serving the people of our state should be considered an honor and a privilege, and this bill is a great step toward ensuring legislators are focused on doing all they can for the people they represent, not growing their own bank accounts.”
