Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and Council Member Eric Dinowitz Attend Reception Honoring Former U.S Congresswoman Liz Holtzman
Assemblyman Dinowitz joined Council Member Eric Dinowitz, the New York City Council and other New York Elected Officials to honor Former Congresswoman Liz Holtzman for her decades of service.
Elizabeth Holtzman was elected in 1972 as the youngest woman ever to serve in Congress. During her 4 terms in Congress, she served on the Judiciary Committee, where she played a key role in the impeachment proceedings against President Richard Nixon and offered the Article IV charges. She chaired the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and International Law and was appointed to the Budget Committee. In addition, she cofounded the Congress Women’s Caucus and was named to the National Commission on the Observance of International Woman’s Year by Speaker Tip O’Neill. In 1981, after she left Congress, she was elected as the District Attorney of Brooklyn – the first woman to be elected DA in NYC. In 1989 she was elected as the NYC Comptroller, the City’s chief fiscal officer. Throughout her amazing career, Liz Holtzman broke barriers, championed accountability and fought tirelessly for justice, women’s rights and government transparency.
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz said: “I was thrilled to attend a reception at City Hall for the legendary Liz Holtzman. Believe it or not, I first met Liz Holtzman around 1980, when I volunteered in one of her campaigns. Very few people have had such a long and distinguished record of public service as Liz Holtzman and it is a pleasure to know her and celebrate her many decades of service.”
Council Member Eric Dinowitz said: “Liz Holtzman’s legacy is one of courage, integrity, and relentless advocacy for justice. As the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, she shattered barriers and gave a voice to those who too often went unheard. From her fight to hold criminals accountable to her leadership on women’s rights and government reform, Liz has been a trailblazer whose impact continues to inspire generations of myself - myself included. I’m proud to have sponsored the event in City Hall honoring her extraordinary contributions to our city, our state, and our nation.”
