Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz applauded the Economic Development Corporation’s (EDC) choice of proposals for development at West 230th Street and Broadway. The EDC recently narrowed the field from eleven proposals to five.

As a leading proponent of economic development at the West 230th site, Assemblyman Dinowitz strongly advocated from the very beginning that this location be used not for housing but for an opportunity to economically revitalize the Kingsbridge area. The EDC’s choice of five proposals – three include no housing and two include housing components that the EDC wants eliminated – reflect Assemblyman Dinowitz’ original development plan.

Assemblyman Dinowitz stated, "I have advocated for economic development in Kingsbridge at the West 230th Street and Broadway site for many years. I have always believed that the area would benefit the most by bringing in good retail stores. The EDC has rejected housing at this site. That’s a big win for our community. By choosing the three best proposals which don’t include housing and by giving the developers of two other proposals that do include housing a choice to amend their proposals to eliminate the housing component, the EDC has heard what I have said as well as other elected officials, the Community Board and neighborhood leaders. I am pleased that we are one step closer to realizing this vision of economically revitalizing the Kingsbridge area."
