Assemblyman Dinowitz blasted the NYC Office of Cranes and Derricks for issuing a permit to bring a huge crane to the construction site at West 237th Street and Henry Hudson Parkway on May 8th 2005. In a letter to Iris Weinshall, Commissioner of Department of Transportation, Assemblyman Dinowitz stated,

"I am writing to notify you of a disgraceful incident that occurred in my district. The Office of Cranes and Derricks issued a permit for the construction site at West 237th and Henry Hudson Parkway to bring in and operate a massive crane at 6 a.m. on Sunday May 8th 2005. Doing construction in a residential neighborhood at 6 a.m. is outrageous. But to do it on the weekend is even more outrageous. It gets even worse. That Sunday, May 8th, was Mother’s Day."

Dinowitz concluded his letter by saying, "I do not understand why the Office of Cranes and Derricks would issue a permit to begin construction at 6 a.m. I think it shows a lack of planning and disregard for the community. My district is overrun with construction, creating major quality of life issues. They should not, however, have to deal with massive cranes and the accompanying noise at 6 a.m., on Mother’s Day. I expect better planning in the future."
