More Buses Coming to Kingsbridge Area
Dinowitz is successful in getting more shuttle buses for West 225th subway stop
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz successfully got the MTA to agree to provide more buses at the West 225th subway stop. In response to a letter from Assemblyman Dinowitz to the MTA’s chairman, Peter S. Kalikow, the MTA indicated to the assemblyman that the number of shuttle buses at the West 225th subway stop will increase.
In the letter to the Mr. Kalikow, Assemblyman Dinowitz stated, "The uptown 1 & 9 subway stop on West 231st has been shut down due to the pending installation of elevators. Our office has received numerous complaints of inadequate shuttle bus service from the West 225th Street subway stop to the 231st Street bus stop. A bus shuttle is only provided on West 225th street between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Many of my constituents work long days and do not come home until after 7 p.m. Commuters that arrive after the shuttle hours are left to wait for the BX 7 or 20, which do not run frequently and are often over-crowded. An unnecessary extra half hour is put on an already long commute.
"The renovation at the West 231st Street 1 & 9 subway station began with the understanding that subway passengers would receive prompt bus service from West 225th street. The lack of timely service is a particular problem at peak hours, and has been a major inconvenience for commuters. I request that the MTA increase the number of buses serving the West 225th street stop to more accurately reflect the volume of traffic, and extend the hours of the bus shuttle as well."
Assemblyman Dinowitz stated, "I am pleased that the MTA heard and acted upon my request for more shuttle buses at the West 225th subway stop. This should never have occurred; the MTA should have planned better. My constituents who ride the subway deserve adequate service at all times – regardless of construction – and that’s what they will get with an increase in shuttle buses."
