Dinowitz Requests Changes to Parking Rules
Requests fewer alternate side parking days and different times
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz has requested that the Department of Sanitation change the parking rules in the community. Following up to a letter regarding the parking problem sent last July to the Department of Sanitation, Assemblyman Dinowitz again requested changes to the parking rules.
In a recent letter to Bronx Borough Commissioner Phillip Marino of the Department of Sanitation, Assemblyman Dinowitz stated, “One way to ameliorate this problem is to suspend or limit alternate side parking. By suspending alternate side parking in several key locations throughout my district, or limiting alternate side parking to one day per week, much additional parking would be freed up. This proposal would be particularly appropriate for neighborhoods with single family dwellings and neighborhoods that stay relatively clean. While such changes would not be suitable for our business districts, there are many locations in the residential areas of Riverdale where one day alternate side on each side of the street would be sufficient. Perhaps this can be done on a trial basis for six months.
“I also would like to discuss changing the times for alternate side parking near the business district from West 236th Street/Riverdale Avenue to West 238th/Riverdale Avenue. Business owners have complained that the time for alternate parking is too long, making it difficult for patrons to park in the morning.”
Assemblyman Dinowitz said, “The lack of parking is one of the most pressing problems in my district. Alternate side parking in every area of the community isn’t necessary, particularly in neighborhoods with single family dwellings and neighborhoods that stay relatively clean. I believe that by limiting alternate side parking to one day per week, much additional parking would be freed up.”
