Assemblyman Dinowitz on Wasteful MTA Advertising During Labor Dispute
July 17, 2014
Statement by Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz: “I am pleased to hear that a tentative agreement has been reached to avert a LIRR strike and ensure that millions of New Yorkers can get to work on time on Monday. Still, I am concerned that the MTA sponsored a series of radio and print advertisements in the past few days that articulated their views on the negotiations. While government agencies have a right to – and should – share important and unbiased information with the public, these publicly-funded advertisements are less an unbiased presentation of fact than a blatant attempt to sway public opinion. The use of taxpayer funds to advertise one viewpoint in a labor dispute is wasteful and wrong.”
