Statement by Assemblyman Dinowitz on Visit by President Obama to Our Community
Bronx, NY – Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) issued the following statement:
“I am extremely pleased that President Obama came to the Bronx yesterday, and I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet him. He visited Herbert H. Lehman College in my district to support My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. This new organization is dedicated to the improvement of the lives of boys and young men, particularly African American and Latino young people. Among its goals are improving early childhood education, keeping black and Latino youth out of the criminal justice system and preparing young men to be more successful when entering the workforce. I think we all know that our country’s future depends upon all people succeeding. He chose our community to emphasize his strong commitment to this very important goal and for that he is to be commended.
“I am proud that the President came to Lehman College, my alma mater, to announce this priority initiative. Among the public officials who also attended were Congress Members Eliot Engel, Charles Rangel, and Jose Serrano, NYS Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and City Council Member Andrew Cohen. We all have much work to do on the state and local level to achieve the goals of My Brother’s Keeper Alliance.”
