Assemblyman Dinowitz Wins a Victory for Victims of Falsely-Issued Parking Tickets on Fieldston Road Overpass
Bronx, NY — After receiving complaints from several constituents, all of whom received parking tickets after Thursday, December 17th on the Fieldston Road overpass as a result of newly installed parking signage, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz announced today that he has spoken with DOT officials and achieved a win for those affected.
Recently, angled parking lines were painted on the southbound side of Fieldston Road on the overpass of Henry Hudson Parkway, with no corresponding signage regarding the direction a motorist must pull in to a vacant space. Since then, two parking signs were installed requiring motorists to back in, resulting in many parking tickets being issued. Drivers had been pulling into parking spaces front end first and when new ‘Back-In 60° Parking Only’ signs were installed, the end result was almost every car parked at the location received a ticket.
Per New York City law, there is a five-day grace period for parking tickets when new signage is installed. Assemblyman Dinowitz spoke with DOT officials and announced that he got them to write a letter certifying the date of the new signage’s installation, and that anyone who received a ticket within five days of December 17th, 2015 on the Fieldston Road overpass may contact his office at (718) 796-5345 to receive a copy to help them in traffic court.
“It was upsetting to see so many constituents upset over a parking rule change that was not very well publicized,” said Assemblyman Dinowitz. “However, I am happy the DOT agreed to write this letter and I strongly encourage anyone who received a ticket on the Fieldston Road overpass after December 17th to contact my office so we can help them with their ‘Not Guilty’ plea.”
