Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz has expressed his support for funding of City of New York Parks & Recreation Natural Resource Group’s (NRG) application for the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Grant Program for the Spuyten-Duyvil Non-Point Source Pollution Reduction Project.

In addition to improving natural habitat and water quality, this project will present an opportunity for an increase in community stewardship of Spuyten-Duyvil Park through education on the forest ecosystem and natural area management.

In a letter to Governor George Pataki as well as New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Erin Crotty, Assemblyman Dinowitz wrote, "The ecological and watch quality improvements derived from this project will benefit local residents as well as wildlife throughout New York Harbor. I highly recommend the Non-Point Source Pollution Reduction Project for Spuyten-Duyvil Park for funding and urge you to support this project.

"The restoration of Spuyten-Duyvil Park will form an important link in the chain of restored forests along the East side of the Hudson River – from Riverdale Park to Riverside Park. The objective of this project is to reduce non-point source pollution to the Hudson and Harlem Rivers by preventing the slope erosion at Spuyten-Duyvil Shorefront Park. I urge the Governor and Environmental Commissioner to support this project and help beautify our community," concluded Dinowitz.
