After hearing rumors of the possible elimination of Liberty Lines Bus Service to the northwest Bronx, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz has called upon New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his assistance to save the crucial service.

Dating back to last year when the threat to end weekend service arose, the public has not been kept abreast of the permanent plan of this vital bus service. Service was temporarily saved with intent to unveil a permanent plan of service this past spring. Months later, we are still waiting for the plan, and the only bits of information are the swirling rumors that service may be completely halted to the northwest Bronx. It has been speculated that the Metropolitan Transit Authority may take over the bus lines and alter the current schedules and routes.

In a letter to Mayor Bloomberg, Assemblyman Dinowitz wrote, "We must save this vital service, and the public must be kept informed every step of the way. I am disappointed that there has been so little information available to the public on this most important matter. The tens of thousands of residents in my community that rely on the express bus service, considered almost universally to be excellent service, are counting on your leadership and advocacy on their behalf to protect and to maintain this service at its current level. I am ready to work with you to ensure that this happens."

Communities that utilize Liberty Lines bus service within Assemblyman Dinowitz' district are Riverdale, Kingsbridge, Van Cortlandt Village, Norwood, Woodlawn, and Wakefield.
