Bronx, NY – At long last, the New York City Department of Transportation has agreed to long-time community requests for a four-way stop sign to be installed at the intersection of Oxford Avenue and West 235^th Street, in the heart of a commercial area in central Riverdale. NYC DOT had previously installed enhanced crosswalks to address these concerns, but Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz had criticized this compromise for failing to adequately protect pedestrians who are walking to or from stores such as Key Food or Walgreens (both located on corners of this intersection) as well as numerous locally-owned stores and restaurants along West 235^th Street and nearby Johnson Avenue.

The four-way stop sign was installed quietly by NYC DOT within the past couple weeks, and the new stop signs along West 235^th Street are hailed by Assemblyman Dinowitz as a critical improvement that will help keep pedestrians safe when they cross the street. Dinowitz has made numerous requests for a four-way stop at this Oxford Avenue and West 235^th Street over the past several years, which appear to have been successful in drawing DOT attention to the concerns that community residents have raised about pedestrian safety.
