Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar Hosts At-Home COVID-19 Test Kit Distribution at District Office
Giveaway Is One of Numerous Community Events by the Assemblywoman
South Queens, New York – With record-breaking numbers of COVID-19 cases in the city due to the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar (D-AD 38) has organized a free distribution of at-home rapid COVID-19 tests at her district office. The event, to be held Tuesday, January 11 from 12:00pm-1:30pm at 83-91 Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens, is co-sponsored by Congresswoman Grace Meng, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, State Senator Joe Addabbo, State Senator James Sanders, Councilman Bob Holden, and Councilwoman Joann Ariola.
The event will offer free at-home rapid antigen test kits, each containing two tests. No reservations or ID are required, and availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
As representative of a district that was once the worldwide epicenter of the pandemic, Assemblywoman Rajkumar has prioritized combating COVID-19. Her campaign operated as a service organization providing doctors, food, and other help to residents in 5 languages. Soon after being sworn in as Assemblywoman, she turned her office into a testing center, expanded her office hours to meet the needs of the health crisis, provided free food to hundreds of constituents every week for 5 months of the pandemic, brought a vaccination site to her district, and helped constituents schedule hundreds of vaccine appointments.
The test kit giveaway builds upon Assemblywoman Rajkumar’s consistent record of organizing free constituent service events in her district office. In November, she hosted both a free health clinic and a free mammogram screening. The Assemblywoman also regularly holds giveaways of food, along with other items such as winter clothing accessories, toys, and school supplies.
Constituents expressed their gratitude for Assemblywoman Rajkumar’s test kit giveaway and other events.
“I’ve been having so much trouble finding home COVID tests. Every place seems to be sold out,” said Leon Jameson Suseran. “It’s such a relief to know Assemblywoman Rajkumar is looking out for me. I can get a free home test from her tomorrow, and I can drop by her office any time to do a free test there. Because of her, I don’t have to go from store to store, or wait in line at a clinic.”
“It’s amazing how many events Assemblywoman Rajkumar has done,” said Victor Rodriguez. “Her district office is like a community center. It seems like every time I walk by there is another event helping people. You can tell she really cares about serving us.”
“In the fight against COVID-19, we need to have immediate testing,” said Sherry Algredo. “This virus is evolving, and so must our strategy to end this pandemic. We cannot and will not go back to a time when hospitals in South Queens had beds in hallways and lines of ambulances outside. With these test kits, we can detect COVID-19 early and prevent its exponential spread.”
Assemblywoman Rajkumar spoke with pride about the many events at her district office.
“My bright red office on Woodhaven Boulevard is a place where the people of South Queens can connect with the state, city, and world. It is a part of the community’s fabric and a service center for youth, seniors, families and all working people. My office strives every day to serve and inspire whether it’s helping constituents with healthcare, food relief, legal matters or mentorship for their children.”
