Angelino Reacts to Executive Budget
Statement by Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C-Norwich)
“At a time when New York is staring down what can only be described as a fiscal cliff, the fact Gov. Hochul is proposing the largest budget in the history of the state is thoroughly irresponsible. In fact, her budget director, Blake Washington, has warned parts of the budget are not sustainable when talking about the close to $2 billion the governor is recommending spending on migrants. I'm also concerned about rumors of removing "hold harmless" agreements with school districts, which ensure a district's state aid will not be reduced. All local governments and school districts must live within a 2% tax cap, but the state blows right past that every year. We owe it to the people of New York to be fiscally responsible and work toward a balanced budget, not a progressive spending spree. I will always work toward that goal and look forward to raising these issues during the budget debate and negotiation period.”
