Angelino: Cuomo’s Evasive Responses on Nursing Home Tragedy Require Thorough Investigation
Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C,I-Norwich) statement on the news of the FBI investigation into the Cuomo administration’s handling of nursing home data
“I am thankful the FBI has opened an investigation into the governor and his administration’s efforts to keep the public, the state Legislature and the federal government in the dark about the true picture which faced our seniors in nursing homes during the pandemic. These decisions led to more than 15,000 lost lives. For weeks I have been calling for an investigation within the Committee on Oversight, Analysis and Investigation, of which I am the ranking Minority member, but have been met with an unwillingness to act from my counterparts in Majority leadership. The governor has obfuscated the facts, apologized behind closed doors to Majority leaders of the Assembly, rather than the public, and bullied those – such as Assemblyman Ron Kim – who challenged him in his wrongdoing. New Yorkers welcome the FBI’s investigation, so we can finally get to the bottom of this terrible tragedy. An investigation by the state legislature is still not out of the question just because the FBI is involved. These probes can act separate and parallel.”
