Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C,I-Norwich) joined his Assembly and Senate Minority colleagues in issuing resolutions to terminate the state’s disaster emergency declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic. This would put an end to the governor’s extraordinary powers through his executive orders.

“New Yorkers are ready to move forward from the pandemic. Our decreased numbers for our state and our region show that we have successfully slowed the spread of COVID-19 and that it is safe to open our state up fully,” said Angelino. “The governor asked each New Yorker to substantially sacrifice and it has taken a toll. Now it’s time to loosen the reins and end the governor’s emergency executive orders.”

The state boasts one of the lowest COVID-19 rates in the country and is among the highest for vaccination rates. To date, the seven-day average infection rate in the Southern Tier is 0.6 percent with the statewide average is 0.54 percent. More than 332,000 people in the Southern Tier have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
