“I couldn’t be more disappointed to see that nearly 1,500 New York City municipal workers were fired over a senseless mandate,” said DeStefano. “Terminating employees simply because they chose not to get vaccinated is crossing the line. Many of these city workers served on the front lines during the pandemic and this mandate is absolutely unfair to them. The goal should not be vaccination or termination. We must let people make their own choices. Let’s not forget many of these individuals were last year’s heroes, we cannot and should not turn our backs on them now.”
