DeStefano: Everyone Should Have Access to FDA-Approved Opioid Reversal Agents
“I was joined by some of my Assembly colleagues yesterday, May 7, at a press conference to discuss the evolving epidemic here in New York that is the opioid crisis. This crisis has continued to grow significantly, transitioning from prescription drugs to heroin, and now predominantly Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid responsible for a mass number of overdoses in recent years. How many more overdoses need to take place before we finally decide to crack down on this issue and take action once and for all?
“With overdoses skyrocketing in our state from just 18 cases in 1999 to almost 5,000 in 2022, it is evident our state is not doing enough to combat this epidemic. Passing the proposed legislation introduced by Assembly Member Phil Steck (D-Colonie) to increase the availability of opioid overdose reversal agents across New York state (A.8075-C) will be the first step in the right direction in preventing future overdoses and saving our families and friends.”
