Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C-Bethpage) honored local World War II veteran Charles (Charlie) Franza, upon the occasion of his 100th birthday. Franza became a centenarian on Jan. 5, 2023.
“We are all so grateful for the service and sacrifice of our veterans, and it is a pleasure to take a moment to honor them whenever we can,” said Mikulin. “Helping to celebrate the life and service of Sgt. His 100 years on this earth have enriched our community here in Nassau County, he has made an unforgettable impression on family and friends, and he has helped to change the course of human history. We will remember his service and are indebted to his efforts helping to make our world a safer, better place. Happy birthday and thank you.”
Franza began his military career in 1942 as photo lab technician stationed at Mitchel Field Air Base in Hempstead, NY, before he was promoted to sergeant. He received a decoration for marksmanship and was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 7, 1949, he married his late wife, Nettie Felber, and was father to her sons George, David, Theodore and Robert.
