Mikulin on Weinstein’s Law Firm Contributing to Cuomo’s Campaign
A statement from Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C,I,Ref-Bethpage)
Yesterday, a story broke revealing Gov. Cuomo’s apparent interference in the New York Attorney General’s investigation into the Manhattan District Attorney’s handling and dismissal of a sexual assault case against Harvey Weinstein. Months after the D.A. declined to prosecute, he was paid $10,000 by Weinstein’s attorney. Gov. Cuomo recently instructed New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood to halt her investigation just as the law firm that Weinstein’s attorney works for contributed $25,000 to Cuomo’s campaign.
Assemblyman Mikulin released the following statement:
“This is an outrage,” said Mikulin. “Stopping this kind of blatant corruption and abuse of power is a major reason I decided to join the New York State Assembly. The Legislature and the taxpayers cannot turn a blind eye to this. This has the appearance of the governor accepting a bribe in the form of a $25,000 campaign contribution from the law firm that represents Harvey Weinstein in order to squash the state Attorney General’s investigation of the Weinstein case. The appearances of bribery and covering up sexual assault…not traits we need in our governor. New York deserves better.”
