Statement from Assemblyman John Mikulin on The Attorney General’s Nursing Home Report
A statement from Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C,I-Bethpage)
“The attorney general’s report that was released today regarding nursing home deaths in the state of New York is truly appalling. For months, my colleagues and I in the minority have criticized the policy of placing COVID-19 patients in nursing homes. This policy caused the spread of the virus to our elderly population and many deaths resulted because of this unwise decision. In fact, today’s report from the Attorney General’s Office detailed how the Governor’s Office undercounted deaths by 50 percent. My colleagues and I were correct in calling for an investigation early on.”
“Due to this alarming release, it is imperative that we in the Legislature use our authority to investigate this matter fully. As I have been saying for months with the Minority Conference, we in the Legislature should stop abdicating our authority to the executive branch for the benefit of all New Yorkers.”
