Lemondes Slams Tax Cut Block for Senior Veterans, Stimulus Checks for Illegal Immigrants
Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C,I-Lafayette) is dumbfounded following an Assembly Ways and Means vote that takes steps to cut a proposed tax break for senior veterans in New York state. Spearheaded by Assembly Majority and following the already-outrageous vote to grant illegal immigrants $15,600 in stimulus checks per person, the $71tax cut for senior veterans comes at a time when seniors who served could benefit from such a reprieve. Lemondes cites this vote as just further evidence that state Majority has their heads in the clouds and their priorities backward.
“I cannot understand why any lawmaker would be looking to make life harder for the men and women who have served this country valiantly,” Lemondes said. “This vote clearly and decisively shows that my colleagues across the aisle, who have been controlling the state and shepherding its economic downfall for the past decade, are living in a completely different world from hardworking, patriotic New Yorkers. To block this vote for economic support for our veterans mere days after granting lawbreakers a check larger than anyone else in the state will receive as part of a pandemic recovery program is astonishingly cold hearted.”
