Giglio Urges Women to Schedule a Mammogram
Early detection key to fighting breast cancer
With Mother’s Day approaching, Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda) today joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program to urge women throughout his district to schedule a mammogram.
"It’s critical that women get a mammogram every year because the key to fighting breast cancer is early detection," said Giglio. "This Mother’s Day, I ask everyone to urge their mother, daughter, sister or loved one to schedule an exam."
To find out how to get a low-cost or free mammogram, locate an accredited mammography facility, or find support and answers to your questions and concerns about breast cancer, individuals can call the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program Hotline at 1-800-877-8077. Individuals can also visit www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer for more information.
"Many women avoid mammograms because they are fearful of breast cancer diagnosis," said Giglio. "However, the women who have cancer can receive early treatment, while 95% of women will gain peace of mind."
Individuals may also contact two local breast cancer awareness programs. The Breast Cancer Network of WNY, Inc. can be reached at (716) 631-8665. Also, the Cattaraugus County Health Department Cancer Services Program Coordinator can be reached at (800) 251-2584.
