Jensen Objects To Extension Of Eviction Moratorium
April 28, 2021
Assemblyman Josh Jensen (R,C,I-Greece) joined the Assembly Minority Conference’s Zoom press conference objecting to a bill introduced by the Majority to extend the eviction moratorium.
The eviction moratorium is set to expire May 1; however, the Majority’s bill would extend the moratorium until at least August 31 (A.7175). Small landlords shared their personal experiences of trying to meet their own financial obligations, despite an outpour of overdue rental payments.
“New York’s economy is starting to get back on track. It will only get better from here as reopening continues across the board and residents are able to go back to work,” said Jensen. “This extension will simply hurt small landlords who haven’t received rent payments from tenants for over a year now. They can’t continue functioning without payments, it’s just not feasible. Our small landlords deserve relief. As New York progressively reopens, it’s time our lives return to normal. The extension is no longer needed.”
