Assemblyman Keith P. Brown (R,C,I-Northport) joined members of the Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences today to demand a public safety plan to address the alarming increases in crime and public safety concerns across New York state.

Brown and his Minority colleagues are renewing demands for a full repeal of the state’s bail reform laws that they argue have facilitated criminals being released and allowed them to continue terrorizing neighborhoods. Among other topics discussed were outrage with District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s refusal to prosecute certain crimes, restoration of judicial discretion in the bail process and the importance of funding our law enforcement.

“The effects bail reform has had on our criminal justice system have been absolutely devastating to New Yorker’s public safety,” said Brown. “Criminals are no longer worried about being arrested because they know they’ll be back on the street in a matter of minutes. Add that to the fact we now have district attorneys who openly refuse to prosecute certain crimes. It’s madness. If we don’t make some serious changes now, the astonishing increases in every classification of crime will only continue to get worse, and New York families will pay the price.”
