Assemblyman Keith Brown Announces State Funding for Library Improvements in Huntington and Smithtown Communities
Assemblyman Keith Brown (R,C–Northport) today announced that three local libraries serving the Huntington and Smithtown area will receive more than $195,000 in state funding through the New York State Aid for Library Construction Program. The funding will support critical building upgrades, energy-efficiency improvements and interior renovations that enhance safety and service for residents.
“Our libraries are vital community institutions that serve residents of all ages, from students and families to seniors,” said Brown. “This funding will help modernize facilities, improve reliability and ensure these libraries remain welcoming, functional spaces for years to come.”
Libraries receiving funding in Brown’s district include:
- Commack Public Library ($48,000) will replace its HVAC unit and renovate the Young Adult room, including the installation of a custom-built on-site customer service desk to better support patrons.
- Harborfields Public Library (Greenlawn) ($75,000) will complete interior alterations and associated work to improve the functionality of the facility.
- Northport Public Library (East Northport) ($72,500) will replace its roofing system and complete related work to address long-term maintenance needs and protect the building’s infrastructure.
Brown thanked library administrators, trustees, and staff for their efforts in securing this funding, as well as the New York State Library for its technical assistance throughout the application process.
“These projects represent smart investments in public infrastructure that improve safety, efficiency and access for our community,” Brown added. “I’m proud to support funding that strengthens our libraries and delivers real value for local taxpayers.”
