Local Roads Don’t Just Matter, They Are Essential

Statement by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C-Black River)

“I was proud to once again join my colleagues and highway superintendents from around the state to call for increased funding for our local roads, bridges and culverts. Our North Country and Mohawk Valley roadways take a beating from the harsh winter weather, and they are in constant need of attention and upkeep.

“That is why I join the call for increasing CHIPS base funding by $200 million and Extreme Winter Recovery (EWR) funding by $70 million in the final budget. Gov. Hochul’s current proposal which offers level funding from last year is not nearly enough to combat 22% inflation in construction costs. Our local roads are essential, and this should be reflected in the budget passed out of Albany.”
