Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush Joins Donate Life Advocates at Albany Press Conference to Promote Organ Donation Awareness

Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C-Black River) today joined his fellow lawmakers, donor families, transplant recipients and healthcare professionals at a Donate Life press conference held in the Well of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ, eye and tissue donation.

The event, held as part of National Donate Life Month, brought together advocates from across the state to share personal stories, honor donors and encourage more New Yorkers to register as organ donors.

“Every person who registers as a donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and improve the lives of dozens more," said Blankenbush. "I'm proud to stand with these courageous families and dedicated advocates to support this cause and help spread the message that donation is a gift of life and hope.”

Despite progress, New York continues to face a significant gap in registered donors. Around 8,000 residents are currently on the transplant waiting list, and the state still ranks among the lowest in donor registration rates nationwide.

Blankenbush, a long-time advocate for rural health care access and veterans’ services, emphasized the need for continued public education and outreach—particularly in upstate communities where awareness may lag.

New Yorkers can sign up for the state’s organ donor registry by visiting the DMV, checking the box on their voter registration form or enrolling online at www.donatelife.ny.gov.
