Assemblyman Blankenbush Sponsors Summer Reading Challenge
Assemblyman Blankenbush today announced that he is sponsoring a Summer Reading Challenge for elementary students in the 122nd Assembly District. The assemblyman’s Summer Reading Challenge is held in cooperation with the New York State Library’s initiative, Summer Reading at New York Libraries.
“To encourage children to read more and get excited about reading, I am pleased to sponsor the Summer Reading Challenge,” said Blankenbush. “Reading can be a fun, leisurely activity that doesn’t require spending money. And studies have shown that children who continue to read throughout the summer perform better in the fall.”
Last month, the assemblyman sent a registration form and calendar to students in schools throughout his district directing students to mark off each day on the calendar that they read. When 40 or more days are marked off, the student earns a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate from the assemblyman.
Any schools that did not receive Summer Reading Challenge materials, but are still interested in participating, should contact the assemblyman’s office as soon as possible at 315-493-3909.
