Blankenbush Meets With Gen. Howard On Ft. Drum Day In Albany
Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River) today met with officials from Ft. Drum and state legislators to discuss how the state can better assist the Army base. Ft. Drum is one of the largest employers of both military and civilian staff in upstate New York.
“Ft. Drum is a tremendously important part of the North Country economy, and I am always happy to partner with our military to ensure this economic engine remains and thrives here in our community,” said Blankenbush. “I thank Gen. Michael L. Howard and all the other military officials who shared their insights with us. I will work closely with our state and federal representatives to keep Ft. Drum a vibrant part of our region.”
Blankenbush said one of the biggest challenges ahead involves the cuts being made in the military, but he is ready to work with federal officials to help mitigate a negative impact on the region. Last year, the Ft. Drum base had a $1.42 billion impact on the region. The base not only employs military and civilian personnel, but is also a major source of support service contracts with small businesses in the region.
