Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River) is pleased to announce that three local libraries in his area have been awarded aid for construction projects. More than $207,000 in state aid will be invested in four libraries within Blankenbush’s district.

“Libraries are the center of continued learning for adults and a resource for young learners. That’s why it’s so critically important to continue investing in these public assets,” said Blankenbush. “I know these capital funds will help ensure their continued success in supporting and enriching local residents.”

In Lewis County, Lyons Falls Library has been awarded $2,510 to replace its roof with a safer and more energy-efficient option. Osceola Public Library will receive $153,010 to increase its useable library space and to restore the historic integrity of the building. In Oneida County, Woodgate Free Library has been awarded $41,269 for structural renovations and to increase accessibility for those with disabilities. Kirkland Town Library will receive $10,568 to upgrade exterior lighting to improve safety for library patrons.

In the 2014-15 State Budget, the $14 million State Aid for Library Construction Program was created. It is estimated that 48 percent of libraries throughout the state are in need of capital repairs and improvements.
