Blaming Washington Is Not Leadership
A statement by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River)
“The governor’s presidential campaign continues. Yesterday, he appeared on NPR to express his opposition to a controversial federal tax provision. His argument shows how out of touch he is with people around here.
“Usually, the governor at least pays lip service to fiscal restraint and accountability. However, while courting progressive voters across the country, he let his guard down. He said that New York is a high-tax state. He highlighted expensive handouts like free college tuition and defended generous welfare spending.
“New Yorkers can’t afford a governor who is defiant about runaway spending and cavalier about high taxes. Instead of blaming Politicians in Washington, the governor should work with the Minority in the Legislature to cut spending, reform our sprawling welfare system and cut taxes so the middle class can thrive again.”
