Blankenbush Votes to Prevent Student Performance on State Standardized Tests from Impacting Teacher Evaluations
A Statement by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River)
May 3, 2018
“Today, I was pleased to vote in favor of legislation to decouple student standardized test performance from teacher evaluations. Sound education policy empowers teachers to treat each student as an individual. Over-emphasizing these exams turns teachers into foremen of a standardized testing factory, and that’s the last thing we want. You can’t accurately assess how a teacher performed over the course of an entire year based on how stressed-out kids do on a series of grueling exams that take place over a couple of days.
“The Assembly Minority has been fighting for this for years. I’m glad The Assembly Majority finally joined us.”
