Blankenbush Calls For Repeal Of Bail Reform Bill
A Statement by Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River)
I was proud to stand alongside my colleagues and law enforcement officials to call for the repeal of the dangerous bail reform legislation that took effect Jan. 1, 2020. We have seen countless stories of victims impacted by the implementation of this horrendous bill. It is with sad hearts that we were also joined by loved ones of victims of the new criminal justice reforms: Shelia Harris, relative of Rosie Osai, who was struck and killed on Dec. 24 by an unlicensed, hit-and-run driver who was later released without bail and Jennifer Payne, the mother of Sarah Tombs who was shot and killed in April 2019 by her live-in boyfriend. The individual was released last week.
I am proud to be a co-sponsor of legislation introduced by Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I,Ref-Deerpark) that repeals the criminal justice reforms (A.8855). I am calling on my Assembly Majority counterparts to act now. How many more innocent lives are we going to put at risk?
