Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre: Reproductive Rights Will Stay Safe in New York State
“Reproductive care is essential care, and every woman deserves the right to have control over her own body. However, the U.S. Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade proves that this fundamental and hard-earned right is under attack. All New Yorkers should feel safe when it comes to their reproductive care, which is why I’m working to ensure that our rights are protected and kept out of the hands of anti-choice politicians.
“My colleagues and I are passing a legislative package to strengthen a woman’s right to choose, protect health care providers from civil penalty laws and ensure state law enforcement agencies never investigate or prosecute individuals performing, facilitating, or receiving essential care.
“As a life-long reproductive rights advocate, I’ll always fight for equality and reproductive freedom. We must continue protecting reproductive health care in New York State and ensure that the progress we’ve made over the last 50 years is not rolled back.”
