Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre Helps Secure Over $500,000 in Funding for the Community
Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D- Babylon) announced the procurement of state funding for a number of programs in the 11th Assembly District. The 2015-16 budget includes allotments for five programs in the Town of Babylon totaling $510,000 (A.3003-C).
“I am extremely excited to announce the budget includes of over $500,000 to help start up, maintain and expand crucial projects in our community,” Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre said. “The aid will help finance various important programs, including downtown revitalization efforts, flood mitigation and recreational programs for underprivileged children. These programs are not only fundamental for the development of our community, but they are also beneficial to the livelihood of our families here on Long Island.”
The following projects will receive funding in the budget:
- Downtown Copiague Improvements: $100,000 for improvements to streetscaping, parking improvements and façade renovations in the downtown area.
- Amityville Village Flood Mitigation: $300,000 for a drainage project to mitigate street flooding in South Amityville. The funding will help pay for a new system of check valves, catch basins and outfall pipes.
- Wyandanch Volunteer Fire Company: $50,000 for radios that will help the fire department address the safety concerns due to Wyandanch’s increasing population.
- Wyandanch Family Life Center: $50,000 to continue providing important recreational and academic programs to the children in the district.
- Wyandanch Council of Thought and Action: $10,000 to help continue offender support groups that aim to decrease recidivism and help individuals become good, productive citizens.
