Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) hosted a food drive on Wednesday afternoon that brought in more than 400 food items for Island Harvest, one of the largest hunger relief organizations on Long Island.

“The outpouring of contributions and support we had for this event truly represents the community’s passion to ensure no family goes hungry,” Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre said. “These donations will go a long way in benefiting Island Harvest’s mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. I would like to thank the community for stepping to the plate, making this food drive such a success.”

Island Harvest Food Bank President and CEO, Randi Dresner, said, “We are so pleased that Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre understands that in order to have an effective impact on hunger on Long Island we need to have the support of the entire community. This food drive helped raise awareness in addition to hundreds of pounds of food needed that will be immediately distributed to people in need. We appreciate her support and that of her community as well, all year long.”

Island Harvest is Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. Their volunteers and staff deliver millions of pounds of good, surplus food – much of which might otherwise go to waste – to a network of 570 Long Island-based food pantries, soup kitchens and other non-profit organizations that offer feeding services for those in need. By doing this, they provide a vital supply of food to counter the sharply rising problem of hunger here on Long Island.
