Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre Supports LIRR Improvement Program
Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) announced her support for the recently proposed LIRR Improvement Program to upgrade and expand Long Island’s public transportation infrastructure.
“Our families and businesses rely on the LIRR, but the aging system simply can’t meet the needs of railroad passengers,” said Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre. “I strongly support the LIRR Improvement Program and will continue the fight to improve travel conditions for Long Island’s commuters and visitors.”
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has remained virtually unchanged in recent years, leading to chronic congestion and delays for thousands of commuters and families relying on the system every day. Governor Cuomo’s proposed LIRR Improvement Program would invest in vital infrastructure upgrades to increase rail capacity, ensure safety and reliability and promote the region’s economic growth.
Increased rail capacity would also allow for reverse train service during peak travel hours, making it easier for commuters and consumers to reach local businesses, noted Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre.
“This new expansion will be an excellent opportunity for people to pursue jobs on Long Island,” said Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre. “Young people want to live in vibrant communities, with transportation accessibility. This program heads in the direction of keeping young people on Long Island.”
