Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre Supports Paid Family Leave, Tax Relief Legislation to Benefit Long Island Families
“To ensure a brighter future for families living on Long Island, workers must be able to care for a newborn or respond to family emergencies without risking their financial or job security. That’s why I voted for paid family leave legislation, which aims to give all New Yorkers access to paid time off when their loved ones need care (A.3870-A).
Federal law allows workers 12 weeks of unpaid leave, but hardworking New Yorkers deserve better. We must insist on paid family leave to care for an ill family member or new child. The Assembly’s legislation puts families first, and I will continue to work toward making paid family leave a reality for all New Yorkers.
The Assembly Majority also introduced legislation I’m sponsoring to provide significant tax relief to middle-class families and make the state’s tax structure more progressive (A.9179). The bill would reduce the income tax rate for over 5 million New Yorkers so families can keep more of their hard-earned money. It would also expand the state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), boosting the average credit for over 1.6 million New Yorkers.
Together, these measures will help ensure more families can afford to call Long Island home.”
