Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) highlighted the success of her recent Neighbors Coming Together event, which brought members of our community of all faiths together for a day of unity.

“Regardless of our different backgrounds and faiths, it is so important that we come together and show that we are one,” said Jean-Pierre. “Our community is stronger because of our diversity, and we should continue to celebrate each other and show that we all stand together.”

The event, which was hosted by Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre and the Interfaith Task Force, brought together over 200 people at Ascension Lutheran Church in Deer Park to celebrate diversity and faith and work to foster unity within local communities. There were also discussions about how to better promote understanding and tolerance in light of the recent spate of vandalism of churches on Long Island.

“Our differences will never be as important as the things that unite us – understanding, empathy and compassion,” said Jean-Pierre. “The power of coming together, uniting in a shared goal to bring amity and foster dialogue through prayer, far outstrips divisiveness. Now more than ever, it means so much to stand side-by-side with members of our community and call for a better tomorrow for all.”

Following the formal program, a traditional Iftar dinner sponsored by the Long Island Turkish Cultural Center was held for all attendees. Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre expressed her gratitude to all of the event sponsors, including the New Shiloh Baptist Church and local restaurants.
