Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre: Basketball Tournament Helps Fight Against Hunger
This past Saturday, Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) held her 2nd annual Hoops for Hunger event, a basketball tournament to raise awareness and collect food donations for the United Veterans Beacon House in the Town of Babylon. Hundreds of participants gathered to donate food and enjoy a fun day of basketball at the United North Amityville Youth Organization.
“Events like this foster a sense of community and bring friends and neighbors together for a good cause,” said Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre. “Too many families have to suffer the effects of hunger. Organizations like the Veterans Beacon House provide reprieve for many in need and I am proud to support them.”
Over 200 people showed up to play or cheer on friends. In total, over 150 cans of food were donated, helping to ensure families in the community can put food on their plates.
“As much fun as the event is, what’s so much more important is that together, we helped combat hunger in our community,” added Jean-Pierre. “When our neighbors are in need, we step up because we know it’s the right thing to do and that they would do the same for us.”
